Facilities
All the bedrooms are en-suite and many have spectacular views of the sea. The residents are encouraged to personalise their rooms with their own belongings, including pictures and items of furniture. Each bedroom has a 24 hour call bell system.
There are three passenger lifts, which provide easy access to all the floors.
We have recently opened 'The General Store' at The Check House. This is a non-profit making shop where residents are able to choose and purchase their toiletries and a wide variety of sweets and chocolates. The shop has been designed to recreate and old fashioned feel with a small area displaying memoribilia and lots of old advertising labels from years gone by. Loose sweets can also be bought, weighed out on old fashioned scales and sold in pink candy striped bags. The shop is proving to be very popular with all our residents.
We offer hairdressing for all our residents in our lovely hairdressing salon three times a week and chiropody on a monthly basis. We employ a physiotherapist who works with our residents on a one-to-one session. Bowen Therapy takes place once a month, and residents can be taken to Seaton to see their optician or dentist. In house appointments can also be made if required.
Cannon Care Homes employs an Aromatherapist who works at The Check House four days a month. She works closely with the Physiotherapist so they can work together on the individual needs of each resident.
We also have a Musician who works two days a week at The Check House. She spends the day developing musical activities with our residents, including group performances, sing songs and one-to-one sessions. At other times, she sits and plays relaxing music on the piano for our residents to enjoy.
Every week there is a full programme of organised activities. This includes specialist clubs focussing on particular interests of our residents. Amongst these are a weekly art club, and a gardening club, both of which are very popular.
Musical entertainers and Theatre groups regularly visit The Check House. Our minibus takes our more adventurous residents out on visits, several times a week, to local places of interest, and when the weather permits, longer outings are planned.
Daily newspapers are delivered to The Check House and we also have visits from a mobile library.
For those residents unable to attend a Sunday Service in Seaton we hold combined services and communion at The Check House.
